SharePlate
SharePlate is an app that makes it easy for households in Indonesia to donate surplus food to those in need. Data shows that households are the largest contributors to food waste, while Indonesia continues to face a significant hunger issue, with 16.2 million people lacking sufficient food according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 2022. SharePlate serves as a practical solution to the dilemma of wasting food by offering a simple and safe way to donate it.

Research
Research
The development of SharePlate is grounded in thorough research aimed at understanding both the social impact of food waste and the urgent need for improved access to food in Indonesia. Our research process focused on the following key areas:
Food Waste and Hunger Analysis:
In 2022, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported that 16.2 million people in Indonesia lacked sufficient access to food. Meanwhile, households are identified as the largest contributors to food waste, often due to excess food being discarded. We explored this gap and identified a clear opportunity to reduce food waste while addressing hunger through simple and secure food donations.User-Centered Research:
Extensive user interviews and surveys were conducted with Indonesian households to understand their behaviors, motivations, and challenges related to food donation. Key insights included a desire for a seamless, safe, and quick way to donate surplus food, as well as concerns around the safety and logistics of food sharing.Market and Competitor Analysis:
Research into similar food-sharing platforms highlighted the need for a tailored solution in Indonesia, where logistical challenges and cultural nuances must be taken into account. SharePlate aims to be a more localized and streamlined solution for the unique needs of Indonesian communities.

Development
Development
SharePlate's development focuses on creating a platform that is simple, secure, and scalable, while directly addressing the issues of food waste and hunger in Indonesia. Our development process emphasizes the following:
SwiftUI for iOS Development:
To ensure a smooth, native user experience, SharePlate is built using SwiftUI for iOS. This modern framework allows for intuitive, responsive, and visually appealing interfaces. SwiftUI’s declarative syntax helps streamline development and ensures a seamless experience across various iOS devices.Geo Location Services:
A core feature of SharePlate is its integration of Geo Location technology, enabling users to find nearby recipients or food banks based on their location. This feature ensures that food donations are directed to those closest in need, making the process faster and more efficient. Geo Location services are critical for scaling the app across urban and rural areas of Indonesia, ensuring the app’s accessibility and utility nationwide.
